Haydns Nachfolger und Erben: Hummel, Pleyel, Beethoven

The focus of the various individual forms on a grammatical composition basis laid by Haydn will be studied by menas of a further look on three of his students and followers and their importance for the stylistic, technical and aesthetic evolution of the "classical ideal" and its transformation in the transition to a "romantic individualism.
Contents: Development of the works of Pleyel, Hummel and Beethoven in chamber groups and orchestra projects, accompanied by lectures and workshops.
The Austrian premiere (!) of Hummel's oratorio "The passage through the Red Sea" in the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt is the artistic highlight of this intensive program, additional performances will be held in Bratislava and Szombathely. More concerts build bridges to present-day composition.
Im Mittelpunkt stehen die verschiedenen, individuellen Ausprägungen der von Haydn gelegten grammatikalischen Basis in der Komposition am Beispiel dreier seiner Schüler bzw. Nachfolger und ihre Bedeutung für die stilistische, technische und ästhetische Weiterentwicklung des „klassischen Ideals“ und seiner Transformierung im Übergang zum „romantischen Individualismus“.
Inhalt: Erarbeitung der Werke Pleyels, Hummels und Beethovens in Kammermusikgruppen und Orchesterprojekten, begleitet von Vorträgen und Workshops.
Die österreichische Erstaufführung (!) des Hummelschen Oratoriums „Der Durchgang durch das Rote Meer“ im Schloss Esterhazy in Eisenstadt bildet den künstlerischen Höhepunkt dieses Intensivprogramms, weitere Aufführungen finden in Bratislava und Szombathely statt. Weitere Konzerte schlagen die Brücken zu heutigem Komponieren.
Pleyel: A student of Haydn. The language of the master can be found in Pleyel's works in a "simplified" form again, which makes his work particularly attractive for studies of compositional grammar.
Mozart wrote to his father on 24.4.1784: "Quartets of a certain Pleyel have been released, he is a scholar of Joseph Haydn. If you do not know them, then you should try to get them, they are worth the trouble. They are very well written and very enjoyable. He will sound his master out immediately. Good and fortunate for the music, if Pleyel in his time is capable to replace Haydn! "
Hummel: A pupil of Mozart and Haydn's successor. Hummel develops the classical heritage and constitutes a "link" to Chopin.
Beethoven: Beethoven's radicalism and logical extension of the motivic work means in terms of aesthetic an elevation of individual expression (Romance) and technically nothing less than the beginning of modern abstraction.
Pleyel: Als Schüler Haydns findet sich die Sprache des Meisters in Pleyels Werken in „vereinfachter“ Form wieder, was ihn für Studien der kompositorischen Grammatik besonders attraktiv macht.
Mozart am 24.4.1784 an seinen Vater: "Dann sind dermalen Quartetten heraus von einem gewissen Pleyel; dieser ist ein Scolar von Joseph Haydn. Wenn sie selbige noch nicht kennen, dann suchen Sie sie zu bekommen; es ist der Mühe werth. Sie sind sehr gut geschrieben, und sehr angenehm. Er wird seinen Meister gleich heraus hören. Gut und glücklich für die Musik, wenn Pleyel seiner Zeit im Stande ist, uns Haydn zu remplacieren!"
Hummel: Als Schüler von Mozart und Nachfolger von Haydn bildet Hummels Entwicklung des klassischen Erbes gleichzeitig das „Bindeglied“ zu Chopin.
Beethoven: Beethovens Radikalisierung und konsequente Weiterführung der motivischen Arbeit bedeutet ästhetisch eine Überhöhung des individuellen Ausdrucks (Romantik) und technisch nichts weniger als den Beginn der modernen Abstraktion.
